How to drive traffic to your blog

Building a blog is easy, getting traffic takes effort. Here are a few proven methods that will drive traffic to your blog:
  1. Become the expert in your field, keep learning everyday.
  2. Write posts that will be readable in a year.
  3. Share your expertise generously so people recognize it and depend on you.
  4. Announce news.
  5. Write definitive posts.
  6. Include polls, meters and other engaging activities.
  7. Tag your posts. Use del.ico.us.
  8. Use interesting terms, coin a term or two.
  9. Do email interviews with famous people in your industry.
  10. Be sure to answer your email.
  11. Use photos.
  12. Encourage your readers to share your posts via digg (and to use furl and reddit).
  13. Post photos on flickr.
  14. Encourage your readers to subscribe by RSS.
  15. Include comments so your blog becomes a river that feeds itself.
  16. Consider every day as a beginning; you will always have new readers.
  17. Write about stuff that appeals to the majority of current blog readers–like gadgets and web 2.0.
  18. Have relevant ads that are even better than your content.
  19. Keep tweaking your template to make it seem fresh.
  20. Digest good ideas of other people and share them.
  21. Post as often as possible
  22. Don’t include a lot of links, it interrupts the reading process.
  23. Dress your blog (fonts and design) as well as you would dress yourself for a meeting with a stranger.
  24. Keep editing.
  25. Be patient.
  26. Give credit to those who inspired you and you can expect the same in return
  27. Write about only one thing, in ever-deepening detail, so you become definitive.
  28. Don’t be boring.
  29. Write stuff that people want to read and share.
  30. Participate at Related Forums & Blogs
  31. Buy a domain and make sure you DON’T get xyz.wordpress.com or xyz.blogger.com – your own domain will make your blog seem more serious.
